Alfresco Living in St. Paul
This project presented the opportunity to really maximize outdoor living space on a lovely lot in Highland Park. The owners’ goal was to create a family relaxing and entertaining space with a wood-fired pizza oven, grill, smoker, and various gaming opportunities. We were able to re-purpose the old-growth Douglas fir beams from the house that formerly stood on the lot, along with some beautifully figured ash (also from an on-site tree that we had felled, rough-sawn into boards, and kiln-dried) to make a dining table, benches and and a combination shuffleboard/carpet ball table. Our own Daniel Koplin is the master furniture builder who designed and built the furniture - he loves these kinds of projects, so please ask if you have any custom furniture in mind! The storage lockers on the back of the structure conceal an outdoor ping-pong table that can be rolled out, and the owners also installed a pickle ball/basketball court along with gardens and a fire pit on the property. This project was a collaboration with Light Dark Landscape.
